80 Percent of Investors in the Semiconductor Sector Eager to Start Units in Gujarat

Gujarat will manufacture India’s first semiconductor chip. It is moving fast to establish itself as the world’s semiconductor manufacturing powerhouse because of its industrial know-how and sound infrastructure. In 2024 Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the Gujarat Semiconductor Connect Conference.

It has been noted that Gujarat will build the nation’s first semiconductor chip due to its massive resources and skills. Hence, more than 80 percent of the investors in the semiconductor industry have shifted their focus to Gujarat to establish their units there. These industries will be assisted and supported by the state government. The semiconductor chip project will promote ‘Make in India’ and also bring this country one step further to an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.

In recent years, Gujarat has undergone a lot of technological development and this will supply the semiconductor sector with high-tech human resources. To move one step ahead in achieving self-sufficiency in this project, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the India Semiconductor Mission. The mission of ISM is to enable the assurance of trusted electronics through secure semiconductor and display supply chains, specialty chemicals, and manufacturing equipment. This project will greatly benefit the youth in that, the makeup of the semiconductors will allow the youth to acquire a new skill and gain employment in the new additional industry.

The center for the semiconductor chip project will be located in Dholera. The upcoming smart city in the country is a huge project because it is already technologically advanced and the largest airport in Gujarat is under the works in Dholera smart city. In order to enhance the semiconductor ecosystem, the state government has already created plug-and-play facilities in this city for semiconductor and electronics manufacturing.

The state government has established exclusive semiconductor parks to ensure the existence of a beneficial environment for semiconductor production. Along with such tax reliefs, these parks also provide land, and infrastructure development, among other benefits. Close cooperation with industry players helps the government to resolve any issues and enable seamless integration. Rajkumar, the State Chief Secretary, opined that Gujarat is growing to be India’s semiconductor capital, due to the State Government’s industry-beneficiating policies. To make Dholera Smart City a semiconductor hub, the State Government is offering all the required services at one location to the semiconductor industry.

Gurusharan Singh, Senior Vice President at Micron’s has declared that there is already Gujarat that is joining India in the global rest – semiconductor supply chain. Their company, Tata Electronics CEO Randhir Thakur further announced that they will be constructing a semiconductor manufacturing facility in Dholera with a USD 11 billion investment that will create employment for over twenty thousand youth in Gujarat. S. Krishnan, Secretary of the Central Department of Electronics and Information Technology, informed that this Conference on Semiconductors held in Gujarat will turn out to be useful for new exploration and investment in this particular field in the future.

Because of the semiconductor chip creation in Gujarat, global semiconductor companies will find the state an attractive location due to its conducive business environment. Gujarat has a high probability for securing large investments and developing a self-sustainable semiconductor ecosystem, which will establish a niche for itself in the international semiconductor scene.

Further, for improved connectivity, there are other external and logistical capacities of Gujarat, specifically the region’s infrastructure investment. The power networking system present in the state is strong enough to guarantee that power is always sufficient for the setting up and expansion of semiconductor factories.

Gujarat becoming a hub for semiconductor manufacturing will strengthen international economic relations and attract more trade to India. With the further emergence of the semiconductor industry, Gujarat will come out as one of the most important states in India for electronics manufacturing and become a huge investment hub in this niche.
